For your vote, yeah I know I'm late and not on your site, but here's my opinion anyway.
1. If you want to do a course I'd go with computer science. Reasons why I think this are multiple. Here are some. Qualifications in this area are good to have, it gives you flexibility and a range of industries. There can be a reasonable expectation of a return on your investment. I'm basing this on the fact that Boyfriend has as Computer Science qualification. Photography or writing could then be pursued on a part-time basis as interests that may lead to a separate career.
2. Where you take the course depends on what course you are taking and how important the type/level of institution is going to be in the end. I can't guess at this as I am not in anyway familiar with the US set up.
3. New pastures can be good. But it depends on your reason for going.
4. As to changing you employment, who knows ? If it's possible to stay in the same role and allow time for studies then I would say stay as you remove the issue of learning a new job while learning about your interest/future career.
